History

In 1926 the First Holy Ghost Festa began in the town of Mountain View, California. It was held at the John F. and Jose F. Costa Dairy on Charleston Road. The Queen was Elsie Soares Brasil Goulart, she was crowned at a little church on Middlefield Road. The soupas were made by Elsie’s grandmother, Gertrudes Costa.

The first few years the Festas were held at various dairies in Mountain View and then approximately in 1937 the Festa began at S.F.V.D.E.S. Hall on Front Street, now known as Villa Street. The queens for that year were Mary Costa Hansen and Lena Amaro Pascoa.

May the tradition continue generation after generation in the name of the Holy Ghost.
